The most common method most architects use to calculate fees for a standard Full Architectural Service or Partial Architectural Service is by means of a percentage of the fixed or estimated project building cost. The recommended fee scale, published in the Government Gazette, can be downloaded from the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) website , at www.sacapsa.com. This is considered a method for fair remuneration calculation, applied to both parties and take into consideration the complexity of the proposed project.

At DIPPENAAR DRAUGHTING and DESIGN we prefer to prepare Council Submission Drawings on a rate per square meter, but many of our projects have been done according to SACAP recommended fee scales – defining a fee structure is upon negotiation and as per agreement with each individual client. Additional work like Working/Construction Drawings, Site Surveys, Site Selection and Project & Technical Support are mostly quoted at an hourly rate. This results in certainty and clarity regarding the architectural fees at the outset of the project when the value of the total project cost is not yet known or where there are to many unknowns to apply a cost estimate to the building project.

We provide one initial free of charge client consultation. This consultation is not to provide design solutions but to confirm the client’s brief and the extend of architectural services to be provided. Upon this consultation DIPPENAAR DRAUGHTING and DESIGN will create and provide a detailed quotation/contract outlining the scope of work and the fee structure proposal for your consideration and approval.

DIPPENAAR DRAUGHTING and DESIGN Fee Structure:

• Council Submission Drawings / As Built Drawings: R85/m² – R350/m², depending on the complexity of the project
• Working/Construction Drawings / Technical Drawings / Layout Drawings for consent applications: R750/hr (we make use of precise computerised timekeeping)
• Site Surveys / Site Selection and other on-site Project & Technical Support services: R750/hr
• 3D Modelling & Photo Realistic Rendering Services: Fees are Project Dependent
• Liaison with Council and other Professional Consultants / Plan Walking Services: Fees are Project Dependent

Fees are likely to be influenced by the extend of the architectural services required, the size, complexity and specific requirements of the project, work to existing buildings (additions & alterations / As Built drawings) which are likely to be significantly more resource intensive, need of presence of Home Owner Association, etc.
